Are Monthly Lenses Or Daily Disposables Best For Infrequent Wear?

Hi, I have previously ordered daily disposable lenses from you, but I am thinking of switching to monthly disposable lenses. This is because I only wear contacts for the gym or for golf, so only wear them for a couple of hours at a time, then end up throwing them away.

I have astigmatism, what do think would be the most suitable contacts to go for, and do you think that this is a good idea?

Optician's Answer

You will need to visit your optician to complete a contact lens fitting before swapping lens type.

It is difficult to recommend the best contact lens for astigmatism as it varies from person to person. It will depend on the health of your eyes and how the contact lens aligns on the eye. These details can only be finalised while in practice with an optician.

Your optician will normally provide a trial sample for you to assess comfort, while they assess the health of your eye, your vision and the position of the contact lens on the eye.

Monthly contact lenses can work out cheaper than dailies (this can vary based on brand), but it does depend on how often you wear them. If you are only wearing contact lenses for golf and the gym, you may find monthlies to be cost inefficient compared to daily disposables.

You will need to weigh up the cost versus the pros and cons of each lens type. Monthly contact lenses also need to be stored and cleaned; this can increase cost as you will need to purchase contact lens solution.

Many people find daily lenses more convenient as they do not need to be cleaned, though they can be more expensive if worn more frequently. Your optician will normally have this discussion with you. They will also make sure that the vision you get with the dailies is just as good as the monthlies.
